In winter rotate blades to so that the inside edges of the blades are facing downwards. Surprisingly this helps to warm the room by allowing sunlight to enter downwards between the blades, warming the lower levels of the room. The warmth generated in this way will rise, increasing the temperature of the room and helping to lower heating costs.

In summer reverse the winter settings. Sunlight is then restricted and the more of the heat is reflected away, keeping the ambient temperature in the room lower.
